New life for 1985 300D California.

My aged 300D California was running so badly that I considered getting rid of it. The performance was poor, the mpg bad and starting was an ordeal. And before anybody says anything, yes that was after putting in a new filter. I decided to try something radical on the advice of an old school hot rod engine builder. I went to the local parts store and purchased a $30 cold air kit. After I modified an intake pipe from pull-a-part car with a bypass hose port it was installed easilly. The car starts better, runs great, gets better mpg's and I threw away the California air filter can and the $40-$70 air filter for good. While some may argue that the original setup should be preserved, this sure beats a California-Federal conversion. It worked so well that the rear end needs to be repaired,(probably from the joy of driving fast) but it is worth repairing and keeping now.

With that intake kit, I suspect he'll have a carload of parts in a couple months - minus an engine.
