Suspension clunk 86 sdl

My 86 sdl with 300xxx miles makes a pronounced clunk when the suspension "tops" out. That is, when i go over a sharp bump and the suspension extends fully, i hear a clunking sound. The upper and lower ball joints have minimal play and the boots are intact. Is a clunk under this condition more likely related to worn upper control arm bushings/sway bar bushings? Or, does this sound more like guide rod trouble? It is quiet and tight otherwise and checked out for alignment a couple of months ago. What do you guys think?
