Trap-Ox pipe

I need to replace trap ox on my 85 cali 300SD. Phil Smart told me VIN on car was not up for any recalls including Trap. It looks original to the car. Where can I locate a by-pass pipe? And are they flanged so as to just bolt in? Kyote mentioned one several days ago.

Contact member 'dieselkid' ..I think

or look up Monstercraftsman website and on ebay.

He is the one making them. If you search here, you will find his thread about this issue.

I thought the trap oxidizer recall was still running. Do you have the football shaped thing (trap) in your car? I would call another dealer or check with MB myself.

I ordered mine from monstercraftsman on ebay, fit perfectly

Yes it is a "muffler" if you will between exhaust manifold and turbo. I researched several months ago and recall ended I'm pretty sure several years ago. Worth a try though. I will check into the monster guy. I have found acouple of worthy early 126's to get manifolds and related parts to switch over. Pipe seems alittle easier. I disconnected egr and bypass. Car really scoots now. Maybe gained 1gal/mi, about 28mpg now. Smokes considerabley more at WTO. Dont want to clog up trap. Thanks for the Suggestions

Trap ox recall...

1-2 years ago w/87 300SDL

I went to MB Maitland FL

Ran VIN told NO RECALL

Went to South Orlando, month later-

Yeah, Bring it for trap ox campaign.

Know the campaign #, I no longer have it.

I have the campain number somewhere.. It's still open on my 85, I just checked into it four months ago.

Recall Campaign number is 96-1121 and just so you know, NO RECALL EVER EXPIRES! AT ALL!

If your campaign is coming up as "closed" it has already been done.

If you send me your VIN, I can look it up at work.

Also I will send you the .pdf document of the repair if you send me your email.

I actually just got a letter in the mail this week from MB reminding me about this recall... so it's definitely still "out there"...

Thanks All, Monstercraftsman has some product left. I will just replace trap with pipe. Just alittle more tweaking, already getting 30.5mpg. What a sweet Auto.

Yeh, People seem to really like the trap bypass. It fits perfectly and could literally be considered a work of art....

Kidding.

Joshuajeeper - Can you run my VIN. I stopped by Phil Smart here in Seattle and they told me the work had been done but at Eastside Mercedes (? Barrier Mercedes) but said they could tell me what parts were replaced and the recall was closed for my car.

The turbo will only give about 200 RPM increase and my mechanic stated the he removed the sensor on lthe intake manifold (near the firewall i believe) and poked around with a screwdriver, came back with lots of carbon. Also there is this turbo clunk sound when revving the engine up and as the RPM's decrease to the point the turbo shuts down it clunks.

My 85 300D VIN is WDBAB33C6FA203126

blackestate 10-17-2009 05:24 PM

I believe I have a turbo for that I pulled from my 85 CA(if it comes to that). I changed all the manifolds...

ckamila 10-17-2009 11:59 PM

Thanks blackestate, i will keep that in mind.
