York compressors come from the factory with POE (polyol ester oil) - a mineral oil. I recently saw ester oil at Advance Auto.

that is where I got mine.
This comment may be too regoinal, but I called Carlisle on
San Pedro to see if they would diagnose my leak over the summer and they warned me off saying they had no R12 and couldn't do the job. They gave no indication when they would again be able to service R12 systems. May not affect whether they have the oil or not..

btw, I got mine at a local independent auto parts store (can't remember which) - it had about an inch of dust on it.

I did not know they did service work at all...
I only knew they were good advice and parts....
since it is a local call for you why don't you check back and see if they have the Castrol Premium cold flow 500 in stock ?

To those who say use ester oil. The ester oil on the shelves at the local parts suppliers says its for 134 systems and is especially good for 12 to 134a conversions but does not seem to indicate that it compatible with 12. Is it ?
