87 300TDT belt issue
I am going thru a belt every 1000 miles, up to number 5.
I have replaced the shock, tensioner, twice. Replaced the lower pulley, replaced the water pump, replaced the roller by the tensioner, everything seems to line up perfectly. The inner edge of the belt is being shredded somehow? The alternator, power steering pump move freely, The A/C compressor has always had some noise nothing new, anyone ever hear of a issue with a compressor or clutch that would cause this problem? I remember reading along time ago about a faulty kilma relay that caused the a/c compressor clutch to do funny things. I've run the car at idle and at high RPM, cycling the A/C on and off , everything seems normal. I am at a loss, any suggestions would be helpfull and appreciated. Thx Ron |
I'll bet the problem is the Rogue T. :D
If not that, what about the pivot that the idler pulley rides on? I understand that it doesn't have to be very much out of alignment (maybe not even enough to see) to cause belt problems. |
Could be the front cover has failed and allowed the idler/tensioner to cock, or you need the proper spacer washer between the tensioner and the front cover.

Thanks,
Yea, I checked the spacer it's fine, as far as the cover failing, not sure it looks normal, nothing deformed, nothing unusaul, any insight on what to look for there? Thx Ron |
It might have been GXSR that had one fail, not sure what to look for other than cracks and a tensioner pulley that is not square to the other pulleys.
There is a newer style front cover / chain cover with more reinforcement, a search will probably turn up the thread, chain cover failure or something like that. |
