taking the coupe to Cincinnati, wish me luck

looks like a long trip ahead for the coupe. anything I should bring with? It is about 950 miles each way from Tampa to Cincy. should get a good milage and power sample with the 4spd 2.47 through Cumberland gap, will keep appraised. plan to do it in one day with only one fuel stop north of Atlanta

Have fun and BTW, 950 miles is not a long trip for a 300CD - it's a jaunt. A bit of trivia: down here, 950 miles won't get you across Texas.

Do you need luck because of the car or because you're going to Cincy?

I was there (2001, at a hotel for the U.S. GP in Indy) the weekend after the courts found white police innocent of a beating (killing) a black youth. I told my neighbor if I don't make it back, that's why!
There was going to be a curfew, but the mayor decided against it, I didn't detect any tension. I left my car in the hotel parking deck, no problems.

so far so good MB cruise control sucks. I have to help the pedal or it kicks out. milage pretty good. I used about 28 gallons from Tampa to Cincy, about 950 miles. I will need to get the actual milage actual gals used but its looking very good. for anyone doubting the 2.47 4 speed 300D turbo swap, it is awesome on the highway. cincy is much hillier than FLA and its works fine here too. i passed over the cumberland gap at 80-85 with 10# boost, sometimes up to 15# but not long. no issues using 4th all the way up

That means you averaged nearly 34mpg.....what are your freeway rpms in 4th at 70 with that setup?? Must be pretty low....

How can you possibly take off on a hill with a manual + 2.47 diff? Seems impossible!

This was my question as well. Watch for traffic cops in TN. You will know without doubt when you reach Cincy as the roads here are the worst in the country. Cincy roads are basically areas of patches & pot-holes, so be prepared to drive slowly while weaving about to avoid ruining your suspension.

basically this is my work car, I use the excursion for long trips. but the wife needs the ford so I decided to take the MB. just worried since I drive 14 hours striaght through. pot holes and even 275 are murder on the car, the expansion joints are almost as big as the speed bumps in my neighborhood.

the car is a little tough on hill take offs, but no worse than a VW beetle I used to have.

I run 3000RPM at 85, and around 2000RPM at 60, most of the trip I was running between 2400 and 2600 RPM, in city highway I run around 2200 RPM, off highway I can cruise around in the 1500-1700 RPM range in third, whats nice here is that I can coast a lot down hills, this car rolls forever with the clutch in

It's a heck of a lot further than that if you come in from Raton N.M. and drive to the Valley (Brownsville-Harlingen) BTDT once in my youth..in a VW Baja Bug from Central City Co. to Harlingen and back, for Christmas.

Dalhart TX has to be the coldest town in Texas. Wind blew right through my U.S. Air Force issue wool great coat. BRRRRR Jan. 1st 1980.
