FWIW, on nashville craigs list there was an SD trans for $200. I'm looking for a hood so asked him what happened to the rest of the car. He had bought engine & tranny - doesn't need tranny. Let me know if you need his address (it's at work) or look at CL.

Hey everyone,

B2 comes in tomorrow. So, hopefully I'll know whether a trans is needed or not...

Question: as pawo indicated earlier..a piece of metal was at the bottom of his pan...after I take my pan off and check for debris...should a flush be done to clean out any other debris before changing the filter and putting the trans fluid and driving off?

If so...what exactly do you do when you do a flush? Fill it drive around, drain? Is it something that should be done with a pump device? Or should I just, after putting the B2 back in, check the pan for metal, change filter/fluid and be on my merry way? (provided the b2 fixes it)

Also, does anyone know where I might get my injectors nozzles replace and pop tested? AFAIK the injectors in my one SD are original and at 240k... Compared to my "younger" SD @ 140k the engine idles much rougher...

A flush should not be necessary....I would only consider it if there is debris in the pan, but if only the B2 failed, that is unlikely.

As for pop testing, any local good Bosch injection shop should be able to service/test/balance them. I skipped the shop and just replaced my nozzles myself. Huge improvement in how it runs.

Lol I always have to laugh when people say "local ", especially in my area..theres really not a lot of specialty shop--atleast that wont want to rape you because your car has that star on it. I'll look and see what I can find locally.

Where did you get your nozzles from? Did you stick with Bosch or go with some of the other brands I've seen here Monark as well as Bosio..I believe..

With the shop, if you pull the injectors and just bring them in, they can't see the star to overcharge. I think locally its about $25 an injector to have the nozzle replaced, and it pop tested/balanced. Not including the cost of a new nozzle.

I have used both Monark nozzles (obtained through m e r c e d e s s o u r c e) and Bosio nozzles bought through diesel giant....I would probably buy the German Monarks though....they seem to be a bit better. Though I have had good results with both. Don't use Bosch nozzles, they are made in India now and the quality is questionable. Monark are high quality German, and Bosio are Italian made.

Hm..I saw a video [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dseUEVVGsAw] on youtube of an engine in need of new nozzles..I'm not sure if mine sounds like that or not..hmm perhaps I'll take a video and let you see what you think....

I do know that my "younger" SD makes that stumbling jerk movement when first started.. I'll have to take that video

Thumbs up

Just service the trans normally

Bkast did my SD's injectors, huge difference. I am not able to say enough good things about how well new nozzles helped. Same w/ a good fuel injector service on a port EFI vehicle or a rebuilt carb on a high mile one... stuff just does not last forever, regardless of how well it was initially built. IT ALL WEARS.

My dad's SD has Monarks, and it is quick and runs excellent. I have Bosio nozzles in my SD, and it has serious low end torque (easily breaks loose on wet pavement, and can squeal around corners on dry pavement)....and the idle is excellent, as is the fuel efficiency.

New title for thread:

300SD Transmission Resurrected.

B2 repaired successfully.

Car is shifting happily and it would appear a bit smoother than I recall before the fix.

I'd like to thank you guys for the assistance and insight. It was a bit of a pain but its fixed now.

I've got an AC system to do tomorrow, new compressor/dryer/valve...

two oil changes left for today and a garage to clean and I'm done..

woohoooo

Good to hear! I wish mine had been so easy. At least now I know I have a much lower miles trans....so I can "trust" it more than one with 280k+
