got the engine pulled - a couple of questions

I pulled motor and transmission out of my 300d yesterday. it went smoother then I thought it would but as expected there were a couple of hangups.
- there was an electric plug on the tranny that I didn't see, I guess some splicing is in order.
- the kickdown linkage? (my guess) got hung up and bent, the rod that attaches on the firewall. here is where i need a some help. Will it be easy to replace it with the one from the donor car? one end goes into the firewall, what/where is it attached to at the other end?. thanks for all the help so far.

Kickdown is accomplished by wire. Probably the wire you forgot to remove.

You might try to describe the rod that goes through the firewall in more detail. I can only think of the trottle linkage which should be the same between a 77 and 78.

Not sure what the rod accomplishes. it is bolted onto the firewall, acts as a pivot. hooks to the throttle linkage on the injector side of the motor, and the trans. linkage on the other side. it ties the two together. I am sure I can get it out and replaced, but any hints would be much appreciated.

duh! after thinking about it this afternoon, I think that I am describing the accelerator linkage. it would explain why it is attached to something moveable inside the car. is it easy to remove and replace?-andy

All those ball and socket joints pry off with a screwdriver. Just compare each piece with its match on the donor car and keep the one that looks better. I'm not sure how the rod that goes into the firewall is held in place, but it's something like a spring and a circlip.
