Question Will one bottle of DFC damage oxidizer catalyst on '87 300SDL?

I posted this message on the main technical discussion area.

On a 300SDL, whats the difference between a trap oxidizer and an oxidation catalyst?

After I found out that additives have trace elements of lead and/or copper, I won't be using any additives again. HOwever, is it OK to burn the existing tank of diesel that contains one bottle of Redline DFC or should I just have it pumped out into my 240D?

Thanks

Herb

And why wouldn't you want to burn the remaining fuel? It won't damage anything if that's what you are worried about...

The new catalyst (installed when the trap is removed) can tolerate fuel additives. I've been using Redline 85+ on a regular basis for over a year now with no ill effects. Only the trap oxidizer was sensitive to additives. I seriously doubt you would have any problems, even if you continued to use it. And I would defintely not drain the tank!

FWIW, I heard that RedLine called their new diesel additive "85 Plus" because it was designed for 1985 and newer Mercedes vehicles, with the catalysts in the exhaust system. I have a feeling it's perfectly safe. I'm not sure about the older RedLine diesel additive, which may have some of the particles mentioned.

If you're feeling like a rebel, you can always remove the catalyst from the exhaust completely and install a straight pipe in its place... :-)

Thanks for the response guys. I have been wanting to call Redline and actually confirm that there is lead/copper in their additives. But for right now, I'll do as the placard says at the fuel door opening "Diesel Only/No Additives".
