Trans Fluid

Was wondering if anyone can tell me what Transfluid type and amount I need for an oil and filter change on a 1985 300sd turbo diesel?:)

My guy worked for Benz for 45 years and he uses anything as long as it's Dextron. We buy it is Walmart. Most of these stuff is refined by very few supplies and it just packaged according to how much you want to pay. Years ago a beautician told me you could get a ten dollar perm (not me) or a 50 dollar perm. The difference was all in the BS. It will likely take a little over 7.5 quarts if you drain the converter also. That's easy enough.

Thanks, do you use the Dexron II or the standard Dexron, or is there any difference anymore? (Haven't worked on a GM in years.)

The stuff I get is in a blue bottle (Supertech) and says "for use in vehicles previously serviced by Dextron 111 and Mercon". My guy is originally from Serbia and is very practicle. He even tells me to use it in the fuel once and a while to clean the injectors. Apparently it is strongly detergent. Also fills the fuel filters with it when it put them in. That way you don't have to hunt around for diesel and the tranny fluid runs right to the injectors and cleans em up. The expensive stuff might be good but Benz engines use oil intentionally. Who wants to be adding Mobil 1 or such? Like they say, a fool and his money...

I was reading here last year that Mobil 1 transmission fluid has changed formula and is not as good as it was.

Still, the price difference between a cheap Dex-III and an expensive one is not that large. Considering how long you leave it in there, it couldn't add a penny per mile to your operating costs.
