2006 e320 CDI Engine Light On?
I'm the new owner of this vehicle(52k Miles) and have had a couple weeks. Went to fire it up today, and I have a check engine light? I've checked the oil with the service screen and I have 6.5quarts of oil. It fires up and sounds fine...where do I go from here?? Glow plugs? My old 240D keeps the glow plug lamp lit, when there's an issue...does this 06? Thanks for the help!!

Your fixing to see the difference between the new one and the old one.

You need to hook up a scanner and read the fault code. Any speculation is pointless.

Thanks All, I was afraid of that...I was hoping it was a common issue and I would'nt need codes. But this car is chock full of electronics!! Does AUTOZONE know how to query the system? where the physical connection is? etc... never had them do to this for me..

You might want to just invest in an OBDII scanner so you will have it on hand. They are not that expensive (I'm sure you can get one for about $30 today) and that will allow you to read the codes and clear them. Once you have the fault codes read report them back.
Common problems with the CDI involve glow plugs and EGR so it would not surprise me to hear the code you read relates to one of those systems.

Heading to Dealer!! :{
Thanks all again...i'm taking it to the stealer this am...I'll report back. I'm leaving on a trip in a couple days so I don't have the time to self diagnose. But, any recommendation on inexpensive but good scanners?

I can predict one thing...you probably won't make it out of the dealer for under $500 unless it is under warranty, regardless of what is wrong. You didn't say if you bought it from a dealer or private seller but if from the dealer then they should resolve it for free if it is within a couple of weeks of purchase.
I'm sure that you can safely drive the car if there are no "symptoms" so to run to the dealer with some sense of urgency for a CEL is silly IMHO. Buy a scanner, scan it and in less time than you will spend at the service advisor's counter you will know what is wrong. Any OBDII scanner should do but just ask at the parts store what they recommend. You can spend a lot on one but they all basically do what you need - read codes and reset them.

Status!!
Well as others have said, it was the glow plugs! I had three dead and three okay...went ahead and had them replace all six. ($689.24). I know what to do next time!! I'm buying a scanner today!! As I said before, time was not on my side this time...but at least I stimulated the economy!!
