Yes. I'd love to drive it. I wonder if a taller diff is available for that car?

This is really interesting. I bet the 3 cyl weighs more than the Fiat 4 cyl it replaced, but still if it REALLY gets 70mpg that is fantastic.

I wonder what it would do with a TDI engine in it...
Maybe that could be a new trend, stuff small Diesels in old sports cars.

A 602 powered MG Midget would be cool!

How about a 603 powered TR-7

That is very interesting. Looks like a new CAT engine. That engine can't be cheap. Wonder how he mated it to the transaxle? Car itself looks a little worn. When I was in France a few years ago I noticed some small Fiat sedans with Yanmar diesels.

Anyone know what's the torque rating on that engine, and it don't look like a cat engine, you gotta have lots of $$$$ just to buy a small CAT engine...

IF A DUMMY LIKE ME CAN PUT TOGETHER A 70 M.P.G. CAR IN A BACK YARD SHOP,
WHY CAN'T DETROIT??
Maybe because nobody would buy a 28 HP car that can only go 60 mph?

Wouldn't meet emissions anyway.

What's so unusual about a FIAT running on three cylinders? That seemed to be the norm no matter how many pistons the engine had!

Nobody? I wouldn't say that. If they offered the diesel Smart in this country I would seriously consider buying one.

The Cat engine designation is a C1.1. It's only an industrial engine.
It's more at home in something like this.

Oh, I dunno. 66 cu in. must make about 50 ft lb of torque. With taller gearing I bet it would be fine.

I wonder if you could bolt it in to a Honda Insight? 100 mpg, I'll bet.
