Part of it may be that many of us have way too many daily drivers. I could as most, drive a different car every day of the week . I also make it a point to drive all of them that are running after every maintenance or about every two weeks. People offen ask what is the best way to store a car and my answer is "drive it" If only on Sunday to the park "drive it" But I digress. So when we head out to dinner the questions always comes up" what are we taking" Most of mine are called by brand, some called by the way they run and other the way they look. The MB, the BIG Ford, the Rat, Froggy, the Touring, the Rocket, ect. Kinda like having kids you can't just say the son or daughter you kinda gotta know which one you are talking about.. Thanks

I have named all the cars I have owned. The gassers are girls and the Diesels are boys. Bruno and Foxy got together and spawned Jenny the Jeep

The German cars get German names and the vintage cars got period names.

The 1957 Chevy was Peggy Sue
The 1963 Corvair was Barbra Ann
The 1967 GTO was Raquel
The 1971 GS was Starcia

I don't know if anyone else here has watched a tv show called firefly? For me the name "Serenity" was just obvious for my beloved benz. The space ship in the show by the same name is in constant need of repair has who knows how many miles on it and yet couldn't be more elegant. Really a quote from the show sums it up best.
"She's a fine ship, treat her right and she'll be with you for the rest of your life"

I generally refer to my car as "my car". Sure that's not too creative, but it is descriptive, accurate, simple, and easy to remember.

Tyler named Norm because he is Normally aspirated, and I named my 190E "Anti-Norm" because it's not Norm.

True story.

Wow I'm stunned with all the replies! Thank you!

I have never named cars (other than "that ole POS") before now.
I do not brag to people about having a Mercedes so when talking about it I just called it "The Beater". It kind of stuck. Although I use to call it "The Embasy Car" due to it's size. The 300d is called "The beater II" but to simplify it we just call it "The Dos"(number 2 in spanish).

Seems like people naming these have the mind set that this is gonna be a long term relationship. Is that the difference from the "other" cars?

Great name, great show, and a really good movie. Too bad it was not more popular.
I might just steal 'Serenity' for my next Benz, especially if it is a clunker that needs a lot of work to keep running. All I would need then is Kaylee to keep the engine running...

The Blue Bird started out as a name to use until a name came up and it stuck and could not be more adequate.

Sylvia is Sylvia because she is silver(after a repaint from 040Black by a PO).

Mariah was Mariah because she was Black, a takeoff on "the Black Mariah, a name for the Black Paddy wagons of yesteryear(Hearses were referred to as the same in the Victorian age.

I wanted a Germanic name that wasn't too common or corny. No Helga or Heidi. Got Liesl from "The Sound of Music". I liked it because it sounded feminine, but especially because it rhymed with Diesel.

Good thing you've watched the movie because now I get to tell a funny story! A few months ago the rails of my sunroof broke freeing it from the car completely, unfortunately I didn't know and went for a drive... As I got up to about 50 I hear a massive SHWUMP! and all of a sudden my sunroof is gone! I looked in the rear-view mirror and watched the roof falling from about 30 feet up back to earth and SMACK (paint side down of course). My first response to my friend in the passenger seat was "Did the primary buffer panel just fall of my ship?!" niether of us could stop laughing on the ride home... with the sunroof in the trunk.
