need a second, maybe third opinion.

ok. so i just started having this issue w/ my SD lately. i've been running a veggie mix for the past few tank fulls at about a 90-10 veg to diesel mix. i don't have a conversion kit on the car yet, (i know i know) but it starts up fine and has great power. also the car has a new fuel filter on the motor.

i have the alda tuned down for fuel mileage and i'm running Monark nozzles that have been pop tested. i currently have logged over 1000k miles with the config and this is the first issue i've had.

here is the problem. after driving the car for about 30min at highway speeds (55-75) the car slowly starts to bog down even with the pedal to the floor. it'll slow down to the point where i will need to pull over. when i do, the car will die.

so i turn the key off, turn it back on and the car starts right up, with a small puff of smoke and idles a little rough for a second. rev it up a couple times and it's fine.

BUT, here now i cruise for about another 5-10 min and it'll do the same thing all over again. if i catch it soon enough i can throw the car in neutral and shut off the car then crank it back up and keep it moving.

now here are my thoughts and ideas to why it's happening.

1. the car is not burning the veg and it's building up in the cylinder till it can't burn any new fuel and the car dies. that would explain the small puff of smoke on start up. yet wouldn't explain why it's fine right after.

2. the filter screen in the tank is getting so clogged up causing the fuel to not be delivered to the motor. then when the car is shut off the suction is stopped causing the crap in the screen to float or sink back into the tank, thus allowing fuel back to the motor.

3. both fuel filters are being clogged up b/c of the veg. BUT this wouldn't allow the car to start right back up and be fine. i haven't changed the see through filter yet but i can still see fuel flowing though it.

4. i've noticed that i have a very small leak around the fuel plunger. it could slowly be getting air in the system then causing it to shut down. but that doesn't explain why it starts right up after it shuts down.

so what th F

fuel filters / tank screen clogged. the WVO can turn up crap in the tank and send it forward.

while i dont think it is your issue, do also fix that fuel leak. fixing the leaky primer pump is an easy one.

get your asbestos suit on for using 90 % WVO. but who can argue is you have 1,000,000 miles running the blend...

seriously though, get the conversion in and stop running such a high blend. there is little definitive scientific proof in the WVO world, but im pretty sure 90/10 wont be good for long...

I don't have a problem with the 90/10 mix and I don't think the car does either.

EXCEPT for the crud that has been sent to your screen and filter.

You have fuel starvation. It's the screen on the bottom of the tank and/or the filters in the engine compartment.

WVO is a big family, including canola that pours around the gel point of diesel, and donut/tortilla lard. Something to keep in mind when people say they have no probs singletanking high percentage WVO.

It's as if someone said their diesel ran on petroleum without saying if it's bunker fuel or kerosene.

This is fuel starvation tho.

Filters, Tank Screen or you Tank Venting System is restricted enough that it is causing some vacuum in the Fuel Tank (or Tanks?).
