Well, the SDL has done it

What did it do? Oh... the usual W126 thing

I was driving with a girl in my car and I was trying to tilt the sunroof to vent the warm air as the AC got cold and I go to tilt and all of a sudden I hear a *SNAP* errrr whump...

Well... the sunroof does not tilt properly or open at all... The sunroof is broken... and IF I fix it I practically cannot use it.. Which pisses me off since hatty just fixed it too.

So my plan is to figure out what the hell broke, probably redesign the stupid tilt mechanism and machine it on the Mazak out of billet aluminum.

Nice using the SDL to pick up chicks, works like a charm.

I would lube the mechanism and check for any binding going on so it doesnt break agian for a 3rd time. If I remember right it is adjustable.

124's did it too. Mine was so bad on the 87 300D that it would practically fall in if I hit a good bump. I ended up just wedging it shut because it would have required a major disassembly to fix it.

Interesting, my '87 300D (W124, OM603) just did the same thing today, sans girl. After it made bad noises while trying to tilt it closed, I exercised the switch a couple of times and managed to get it closed.

Although I have had trouble with the slide part of the sunroof (and it has been completely rebuilt by the local dealer) I have never had trouble with the tilt part. The service manager says it must be "cursed." They get it next week to try again and fortunately it is under warranty.

Im guessing the larger backseat is the impetus for the attraction.

but my 190E also attracts the chicks. its funny what a star on the hood can do. i was parked in my school lot with my friends BMW and my other friends Jag.

people decided to use are cars as seats, but not mine.

yeah its funny what a silly star on a hood can do, I guess it speaks more about yourself as a person and that you have money since they reputation they have. Whenever Im in my geo none one ever talks to me but whenever I am with the mercedes its the other way around.

The other weekend I was doing some crap on my brothers mercedes and these 2 girls and a boyfriend who live on the 3rd floor asked me about the car etc. I ended up staying the weekend and they were friendly the day after.

oh well

Ah, the memories ... I think that was my first big project! Knock on wood, but it still works great. I used OEM lift arms, which maybe made a difference ... they were not cheap but for the effort it took to do the job, I didn't want to experiment with aftermarket brands or used parts. I was also really, really careful when aligning the roof. It was not an easy job, but for me, worth it to have a sunroof for the past three summers! If you aren't that into the sunroof, I'd say just close it and forget it. But if you really want the sunroof, it's a doable job.

I avoid using any of my sunroofs for that reason.... Very very rarely I will use the one on the 300E....but only slide back, not tilt. I tried it one time when I bought the car, said "neato", closed it, and that was enough for me.

if the parts hatty bought for the sunroof were purchased within the last two years from the dealership they are warrantied... and I am searching my records for them

and cant find them... plus most of the records are over 2 years old anyways...

Thus, break your sunroof every 10 months and you'll have it working forever
