300td- screeching/squeeling noise when wheel is cranked

Whenever I crank the steering wheel all the way, either direction, my car responds with an abrasive (as if there is any other kind) screeching noise. Any ideas?

Thanks

Welcome!

Check your power steering fluid level, and the tightness of your power steering belt and report back...its probably one of these two items.

PS What year is your 300 td?

While you are at it, replace the p/s filter and fluid.

And since you are going to have the pump drained, you might consider replacing the hoses if they look wet or frayed

It's got to be the PS fluid level. BTW, an easy way to determine if a squeal is the result of a lose belt is to pour a little bit of water on it while it's running. It will immediately stop squealing if it's just a lose belt.

it's not the fluid level, it's the same as my friend's who has the same car and doesn't experience this problem. the belt is looser than his, whenever i crank my wheel all the way, the belt stops and my car makes the screeching noise i mentioned. I'm ordering a new belt. any other possibilities?

No need for more possibilities or even a new belt given that fact. Tighten the belt, end of problem.
