Same, I believe it changed before the '90 updates, my '91 had the later style.

It's possible that we're talking about a different part; The first piece that extends with the wiper arm, has a cover/flap that lifts up, made of plastic. In the early version there is no liftable flap, just a small (1") living-hinge cover that pops open to reveal the bolt head for removing the arm.

That part on mine is made of plastic too. I thought you were talking about the main housing cover that covers the mechanism
