Exclamation Bought a new diesel Part II

original thread here: bought a new "diesel" last week

1976 MCI MC8

well guys after finding a local RV painter i thought could handle the job, i now have my bus back!!!

what was supposed to be a straight forward Paint job has now turned into a $12,700.00 nightmare!!

the first guy i took it to was an RV specialist and he initially quoted me $4,500.00 via email to paint the bus, once i got there and he saw it it went up slightly to $6,500.00 which i felt was due to the poor quality paint that was already on the coach, i agreed for them to paint it and he said it would be done in a week
i thought that was way to little time, but thought eh, he's the proffesional. long story short they basically did zero prep work and painted over the entire unsanded unit, paint was peeling before it even left. so i paid him and basically before i was even out of sight did a visa chargeback.

took it to anothe paint shop and they did an awesome job, turned out really good, and was even less than the original guy who did the crap job $6200.00
so hopefully visa gets some action and i get a refund soon.

Wowsier !!

Carson,

That MCI 7 never looked that good, including leaving the factory. Great gloss white. Good Luck in your recovery efforts.

So, How is your mechanicals, engine, brakes etc ?

Gary

all mechanicals are in excellent condition, engine has slightly over 40K miles, i have a stack of invoices indicating all recent repairs and there is nothing that was not done. when i drove it home from Alabama, i had just two issues, cooling and battery, but those have since been addressed with the new larger capacity waterpump, and 3 new batteries.
BTW the MC7 was 1968 - 1973, and the MC8 was 1973 - 1978

Looks great.

I've been watching your posts on this bus since you bought it, but I was wondering what you plan to do with it?

What do you do with something that huge? Sell your house and live in it?

honestly i have no immediate or definate plans for it just a hobby i guess, i have always wanted a motor home, but really disliked the common units, they seem too delicate, and have since learned that members of the bus conversion comunity call them S/S "sticks and staples". so for now it gives me something to mess with and i enjoy every minute i am behind the wheel!
by the way it's size is very managable at only 40'
