I am new to the forum, but to everyone that participates, I think it is excellent. I little background for anyone that cares, my baby is a 1984 300D. My grandparents bought the car in Germany. They ordered it the way that they wanted it, and upon receival, they took it on a month vacation touring all of the places my Grandfather had been while in the army in Germany. It still has the German tag on the front. I have the bill of sale and the "dog tags" with my grandmothers name and the options that they choose. I call them dog tags, but they are stamped pieces of metal that came with the car from the factory. They shipped the car back here, and picked it up in Savannah, GA. I am 100% positive that noone else has ever owned or even driven the car besides my grandparents. It has 113,400 miles and has always been garaged until I took possesion of it a year ago. Everything is original, even the spare tire, road triangle, and first aid kit which has never been opened. I love the car for a million reasons, but mainly because it is built like a real car should be. I am a diesel mechanic and nothing gives me more pleasure than bringing the car back to life. The years of sitting up really took a toll on the car in some aspects.

On to the problem, I am having water leak into the cabin and run down the post between the front and rear doors. It is happening on both sides, and while not a major leak, I'm sure that it will get worse quickly. Is this coming from the door weatherstripping being bad? Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be the sunroof leaking? Any help would be greatly appreciated. More questions to come for sure.

the sunroof drain runs through the trunk, so unless the trunk is getting wet, this is not the problem(theres a small tube that will run to the right rear wheel well). my guess would be the weatherstripping on the doors, you could replace it rather cheaply, seeing as the car is 25 years old.

Door weatherstripping is a good place to start; however, the sunroof drains do not run through the trunk. The rear drains empty into the cabin vents aft of the rear doors. Under the chrome pieces, you'll see 3 vent holes. The front drains empty just aft of the front wheel wells. The best way to check the sunroof drains is to pour a little water close to each drain at each corner of the sunroof tray and watch for it to exit.

Thanks for the input! I have another question relating to the weatherstripping on the doors. How didfficult is it to change the weatherstripping that surrounds the glass itself? Mine are cracked and begging to crumble. The wiper strips on the inside and outside at the bottom of the glass also need to be replaced because they are hard and brittle as well. Any insight on performing these tasks would be greatly appreciated.

Been a little while, but from what I remember about replacing the window seals they weren't hard to do. They aren't glued in, so you can pull them out and press them in by hand pretty easily - except for the part that runs down inside the door. Seem to recall using a really long flat-head screwdriver and running the window up and down a bit. Not sure if removing the door panels would give easier access, don't think so for some reason. (The door panels come off really easily though fwiw. Four screws on the handle parts and plastic clips around the perimeter.)

If you want to replace the felted wiper strips (can't remember what they are called - the things that leave marks on your arm when you have the window all the way down! ), exterior replacements are readily available new. However everywhere I looked only listed (non-oem) front ones. Fortunately the fronts are longer than the rears, so I ordered four and cut two down to size. Quality seems ok so far. Interior wiper strips I could only find used on fleabay. You can probably order them from Phil or a dealership if you wanted to though. I wasn't prepared to spend very much at the time. They are simple to replace as well, the most dicey part for me was with the exterior ones because they require lifting the chrome trim strips off. Using a flat-head screwdriver with a thinnish piece of leather folded over the end to lever it off along it's length was the only way I could find to get them loose without damaging the paint. A rubber mallet makes short, safe work of getting them seated back down though.

Check the spots near the battery and the hood springs. that gets water through the dash and it can collect anywhere in the cabin.
