617 Delivery Valve Leak & Repair
Hey everyone,
Over the weekend I decided it was a good time to replace the nozzles on my one SD. While removing the hard lines from the IP to the injectors, the #2 line did not want to budge... I believe it might have been cross threaded on to the delivery valve fitting or something as when I attempted to remove it the delivery valve spun and not the nut on the hard line. I attempted to tighten the valve back down however fuel is now leaking out at base of the fitting and top of the plate--right around the raised circular portion of 53. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2.../Capture-5.jpg So I'd like to attempt to repair this..I'm not exactly sure what is broken..perhaps a seal tore? Regarless I am going to need to replace metal hard line #2 as, in order to remove the fitting from the delivery valve I will have to bend the hard line so that I can remove the fitting and then use a bench vise to seperate the hard line and fitting. I've tried two-man two-wrench method while and didnt even budge.. So at minumum: a replacement #2 injector hard line. some injector seals? I dont believe many places sell injector hard lines specific for the SD. So probably a junk yard? What do you guys think? Thanks |
The copper washer (#47 in diagram) is a one time use item and needs to be replaced. It gets deformed slightly to make a perfect seal when #29 is tightened down. I recently replaced an injector line on mine after it started leaking where it connects to #29. Dealership had it for me in two days and it was about $15 (ugh, wrong...looked it up - $32.50) if I remember correctly. Those copper washers were hideously overpriced at about $3 each though.

Can you put a wrench on item #29 and hold it steady while you turn of the Hard Line nut that is above it with the 17mm Wrench? |
I have no intentions of removing those bolts on 53.
I have tried holding the delivery valve fitting in place with a 15mm and using a 17mm on the hard line. This only succeeded in marring/warping the hard line's nut. Whatever/whoever put it on there..it means to stay on there...Does anyone advice spraying a penetrant in there? I wasnt sure as to the whole its part of the fuel system thing.. |

I am confused which of the federal versions do I need the 005 or the 000? If it helps my car is a 82 300SD.... |

You could right that stuff down and go to your local Bosch authorized Fuel Injection Shop and use that info so that they can get the exact part for your particular Fuel Injection Pump. The next suggestion is a little trickier. Take a picture or draw a picture of how your fuel Injection Hard Lines are arranged with special attention to where the Clamps that hold the Hard Lines together go. Remove the clamps that are needed so that you can bend the stuck Fuel Injection Hard line up enough so that you are able to unscrew the Hard Line and Delivery Valve holder together (careful you do not loose any parts when it comes off). Ounce the Delivery Valve Holder/Hard Line is off you can put the Deliver Valve Holder or the Hard LIne nut in a Vice and use what ever force and heat are needed to get them loose. |
