Exclamation York compressor oil

I was told the York compressor takes mineral oil, i can't find it anywhere and no one has it. I'm at pepboys as I write this and they have gear oil. Can I use this? Or does it have to be mineral oil?

If by gear oil you mean the heavy stuff that you put in your differential, then I'd have to say the answer would be no imo.

I'm pretty sure the jug I have I got at pepboys. It's CRC/Sta-Lube brand and says "Professional Formula Compressor Oil SAE 30" on the front. Part #SL22133. So in a pinch I'd say a straight-weight 30 motor oil might work.

It is sometimes called mineral oil, but what you are looking for is refrigeration oil. Try acsource.net.

The York is a different critter when it comes to oil. It packs the oil into the crankcase under certain conditions as opposed to 100% circulation as with most modern systems.

Refrigeration oil can also be had from your local commercial/residential HVAC supplier. It is cheap and will get the job done.

Ester is dead.

Go to Google for "FJC Mineral Oil" and choose a supplier. That is mineral oil specifically for refrigeration (A/C) units.

This ois the best mineral oil I have found that I use in multiple applications.

Hyken Glacial blue multiviscosity oil made by Kendall. Very high quality stuff. 10.00 a gallon.

Available at specialty shops
