Do you think I should take him some? Maybe 8 doors and door seals?

My 240D looked a little worse than Matt's when I bought it, since no one had ever tried to fix it (other than some touchup paint) ... which is actually good, since I only have to correct nature's wrongdoing, not someone else's bad bodywork. In other words, I get to start fresh with my OWN bad bodywork. I was able to fill some pretty big holes using POR15, JB Weld, metal scraps, POR15 Putty, and two different body fillers (not bondo). But, I'm going to have to learn to weld if I want to fix the rocker panels and floorpans, or some larger holes.

Right now I'm about throw my paint guns in the ocean, though. I'm terrible, terrible at painting.

Daw if you've got extra good door seals, I could use them. Assuming I don't push the car off a cliff first ...

Thanks!
I was just typing, and Safari closed. why?! idk!

it looked all pretty at first
then somewhere within the 70k i put on the car, it snowed, and I got tons of roadsalt....
AND! i slid off the corner at the end of my street (just happens to be downhill) and hit a tree, breaking up some rust that the car once had holding it together, no body damage as I was going so slow I could have comfortably opened the door and stepped out...

I felt bad for the car, having to sit outside... and I was looking at the rust running...

under the spray paint spots... is CLEAN metal, I've just never owned a paint gun until today

my new neighbor is a retired body man, and is willing to put some time in with me... I might let my indie do the welds, as I simply don't have time for things like that right now

my doors are bondo (at least in a bondo shell) from the bottom, up to the bold crease below the window, so those are going to be replaced, no doubt.

the rear end, based on the appearance of the welds, and body filler, have come from another car.

the hood and front fenders are replacements, and not MB replacements... the car tracks 100% straight... so I now assume rust has been an issue for some time....

but I feel like I'm sooooo close to getting this car to the point where things will atleast all progress at the same time/rate

oh, and the body trim pieces.... SCREWED into the car.....

apparently the origional way of mounting was just tooo practical....

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this was another origin of rust

I can, and will get this car done.

anyone have a saffron drivers side seat back? and maybe an armrest too

I admire the confidence. I could use that. Although I do have a history of getting things done despite having weak confidence. I made some progress on the fenders, they're nice and smooth ... they just look like a kindergarten class painted them.

LOL, I've never been a truely DIY sorta person....

but my grandfather and I talked the ENTIRE trip back from chads about body parts, issues with rust, and said repairs, and the people we were around that could, and have done so! (with some select people being highlighted )

Some inspiration from my first attempt at bodywork. It looked better as the paint cured and I was able to polish it. A year later the paint is still holding up great...

Thanks!

I followed norms progress very well...
I'm going to take my time with it, trial and error is my best learning technique...
I'll take detailed photos as well...

That's really cool Tyler. I've done OK with my bodywork attempt, but no matter how hard I try I can't get the paint to look anywhere near what you've got. I get orange peel, or terrible runs, or chalking, or just not very even-looking surface. I bought nice paint guns and am using DuPont enamel, and I just don't get what I'm doing wrong. What paint did you use? Base and clear coat? Maybe I would do better with that than the single-stage enamel.
