Thats it!
so, over a long (now over a year) thought about what to do with my '79 240D...
I'm going to keep it, "fix" it, and drive it... A: parting this perfectly running car would absolutely destroy the bond I've developed with it... there wouldn't be that passing in traffic, or going to stalk it in the new driveway... B: I'd COMPLETELY lose my shirt on it. C: I HIGHLY doubt anyone would purchase it for more than, literally a couple hundered. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...b941b361-2.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...8/DSC03508.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...8/DSC03310.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...Picture014.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...03_1296685.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...0612091737.jpg The floor pan has already been COMPLETELY replaced... so thats one less issue... i know for a fact the side of the trunk are SHOT, and a couple "issue" areas coming up... http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...8/DSC03311.jpg as for the structural rust it has going on... I feel as if now, seeing some other vehicles, that maybe I got a little... too concerned the front fenders & hood are 100% rust free... I went out and got a spray gun today... now I just have to hunt down Medium red, and some more bondo?! :o |
Good plan!

With holes like that you need to take up welding, or find a body donor.

we always do, right?! |
I've used bondo before successfully after alot of sanding and treating, but not on holes.
Too much bondo is bad... http://www.ricehatersclub.com/images/108.jpg |

so I'll use some POR15 then?! :o |
I'm actually thinking parts like this

HELLO???
I'm driving to Columbus, Ohio, in a couple of weeks and I have like THREE w123 parts cars down here. See these threads: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-used-parts-sale-wanted/256746-fs-parts-off-2-w123s.html and http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-used-parts-sale-wanted/259600-fs-parts-yet-another-w123%3B-later-year-300d.html and I could even offer very reasonable delivery to Columbus, Ohio --- see this thread: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-used-parts-sale-wanted/260047-fs-delivery-way-columbus-oh.html So, what are you waiting for? Tyler has seen these parts cars and can attest to the lack of rust on them. Right Tyler??? |
I will give my endorsement in exchange for 2 front seats delivered to my door.:D
|
I'm obviously missing something here.
How does this nice looking car go from looking like this http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...b941b361-2.jpg To this? http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...03_1296685.jpg |
Well I talked to him over the weekend so its one of two things.
1. He posted the pictures out of sequence. or 2. He mentioned something about buying it and it was perfect until he got closer to it and started seeing hidden rust which has only gotten progressively worse. I think he also mentioned something about the back half of the car being made of bondo or something like that.... |

Oh....guess what I found out on Saturday? Your seat donor has a BIG wasp nests in the passenger rear corner. |

I thought it was a butchered attempt to preserve the car from continued rusting. How are the doors/door seal areas?
