Coupe vs. Sedan Door Lock Mechanism
The door lock mechanism on my driver's side door, somehow got damaged... I tried closing the door, and it would just bounce back at me instead of closing, so I took it apart, and the pin inside the mechanism "jumped a tooth" is the best way I can describe it. It's now bent from trying to close the door, and I can't for the life of me get it to bend back, and line up enough to move again. :(
Anyway, my car is now unlocked and open at all times...I am planning on going to the junkyard tomorrow to get another assembly, but I'm not sure if the sedan and coupes use the same assembly (since it's extremely rare that I see a coupe in the JY)...does anyone know if they are the same? |

Sorry, no. Neither the lock mechanism or the vac actuator are the same between the coupe and sedan.
Part # 123 720 17 35 for the sedan Part # 123 720 23 35 for the coupe, these numbers are for the lock itself. You can see by the pics the actuators have different lines. |
Not related but the window motors are different to if you ever go for a swap.Coupes in some regards are a different breed in the door and window catagory.Coupes have more problems and sealing them properly from the weather is not cheap.

Hmm...I'm not sure we are talking about the same part.
I'm talking about the large assembly that includes the door striker, and latch. It has a bunch of linkages on it, and it bolts to the inside of the door, below the handle. Has nothing to do with the vacuum system or the door handle. |
I do not know about the coupe, but the door strikers are the same between the 123 sedan, wagon, and the 126. I am sure there are differences between the latch mechanisim on all the cars. the coupe door is a long beast, they may have built it different.

Yea, they certainly look very similar, I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same...
Maybe Toomany_MBZ can look at his two MB's and let me know!! :D (hint hint lol) |
I was on epc net anyway doing a parts list and checked for the part that I think you're talking about. It listed as A 123 720 23 35, decribed as Lock, Left, with interior locking mechanism.
And unfortunately it shows up as Coupe-specific, 280CE, 300CD only in North America. Different models but all coupes for Europe/Japan. No guarantees this is true, I'm not fully up to speed on EPC net. But... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mercedes-W123-door-latch-COUPE-LF-300cd-280ce_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem2c4ff863deQQitemZ190320239582QQptZMotorsQ 5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories This guy's been parting out his coupe(s) for a while. No affiliation/no recommendations, just a point out. |

Alright, got it. |
if you're referring to this part:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/2...a9d7435kb7.jpg then i am pretty sure it's different from coupe to sedan strikers are the same though. and as far as the vacuum actuator, i wouldn't worry about the differences. they all have two vacuum tubes and are all interchangeable, between the older blue kinds, and hte newer black ones. and all have the same bolt pattern in terms of where they bolt into the door frame the best ones to get are the black ones, with the red tips where hte metal rod attaches. they are less prone to leaking. |
Wish you would have brought this up last thursday. I hit 4 PNP and there are 2 coupes, both 79`s. I could have pulled them at the 1/2 off sale.

Darn! I suppose I'll just buy that one on eBay...I would take my chances and see what I find at the junkyard, but I just started coming down with what seems to be a cold from hell... :( Perfect timing. Thanks for your help guys!
