W126 dead speedometer

Does anyone know where the "Vehicle speed sensor" referenced in the electrical diagram is located on the vehicle and the best way to troubleshoot ? Can you just jack the rear whweels up, drop in drive and look for some AC / (pulsating DC) voltage at the speedometer input?

Thanks.

Have you eliminated all other variables first? My speedo died at one point, turned out to be a broken wire behind the dash. Also, check all your fuses and the connections back behind the instrument cluster. Start with the easiest first...

Agreed. All fuses good and wires appear secure...

Before this thread dies completely...

Has anyone ever located or replaced the speed sensor on an 87 300sdl? Is it the wobbly thingy hanging out of the transmission with a single wire attached?
