240d radiator--narrower than 300d? how about oil cooler?
guys, i'm trying to figure out if i can put an oil cooler from a w126 300sd, onto a 240d. i would put one off a 300d w123 into the 240d, but right now i have a 300sd w126 oil cooler in stock. i think i can make this fit, because the height of the 240d and w126 300sd radiator should be the same, right?
as for the width of the w123 and w126 oil coolers, i'm guessing the extra width of a 300sd oil cooler would fit in the space between the radiator and side-wall of a 240d body, because the 240d radiator is narrower than a 300d (w123), leaving extra space in there for a wider oil cooler (maybe even one as wide as the w116). would i be correct in this assumption? or would i be better off using an oil cooler off a w123 300d? |

if you use it with the correct radiator, it will fit.
I have no comment otherwise |

i'm actually not going to be using it with the correct radiator. i'm going to try to put a 300sd oil cooler on a 240d radiator. you think it would work? i already confirmed that the thread diameter between w126 and w123 turbo oil cooler lines are the same

Either will fit. I did a 300 engine swap and used the 240 rad until I found a 300 rad and everything mounts the same.

so dan, when you put the 300 engine into the 240, did you use the 300d's oil cooler? and if so, how much space was left over approximately between the oil cooler and the wall between the headlight and the oil cooler? my goal is to put a 300sd oil cooler into a 240d, and the 300sd oil cooler is like 1-2" or so wider than the 300d oil cooler, so space might be an issue for me
