Injector Rebuilding Quote - Is this Right?
i just got off the phone with my "local" diesel injector shop (an hour away) and they quoted me $36 per injector to rebuild with new nozzles, pop test, and set at 135 bar. is this right or really expensive? i wasn't expecting them to be that much...but i just want to make sure this is right. thanks!

Almost exactly twice what I paid a couple months ago. However, are you supplying the new nozzles or are they? If they are then that's a decent price, I had brought my own.

If they are supplying new nozzles then that is a deal. If you are supplying the nozzles then not so much.

Our local shop is about $20-25 per injector for all of those services if you provide the nozzles. Obviously prices on such things can vary considerably between different shops and different regions of the country.

However, you need to ask what company's Spray Nozzles will be going into the Injectors. Most likely they will be the Bosch made in India ones. But, there are other brand X type Spray Nozzles out there. I bought some brand X types from US Diesel at $16+ each. There was no country of orgin on them. I had to Email and ask. I was told the were made by 7 Diesel and it was claimed the were made in Italy. In the Email that he sent when I requested the price the amount of that type of nozzles he had in stock was listed and it was over 1,000. He must be selling them to someone who is rebuilding a lot of Injectors. There are also those who will use Bosch VW Rabbit spray Nozzles in Mercedes Injectors as they cost less than ones made for Mercedes.

that's the thing, I'M providing the new nozzles, they're monarks.
i thought it seemed high too. this isn't really a rush job, i need these in before it gets cold and would like them done soon to see if it doesn't help my starting issues. i guess i could shop around a bit, maybe mail them off to somewhere else in the country, maybe mail them off to a member that has local shop they can recommend? is there anyone on the forum doing this right now? i know bgkast isn't.... and thanks to deliveryvalve for checking out some options for me! anyone have any ideas? moon161, i'm in ithaca, talking to a bosch shop in binghamton...

Maybe he's taking into account the fact you aren't paying his mark-up on the cheaper wholesale, Indian-made, Bosch OEM nozzles. I recently had mine rebuilt at $200 for five. He installed the Indian-ware and I later went back with my self-purchased Monarks (at $129/set) and had him install and re-pop for 90$. Total cost: almost $400 - I know, I know, - the important thing is the sound of my engine now....

Rebuilding my five injectors initially cost me $200. That included new Bosch nozzles, adjustments, pop testing - everything. The difference between the Monarks and the Bosch is significant - at least on my engine (602 N/A).

I must have misread your initial Post.
If you have your own Spray Nozzles PM bgkast and ask him if he is still rebuilding and for a price.

I like the Fratelli Bosio nozzles myself for the 606. Their price is a little on the high side if it's labor only, but if they're the only shop within an hour's drive, then whatever, I'd probably do it anyways.

if so, you're right, i'll just do that part myself, i just wasn't sure if something else went on that i couldn't do myself. i assume bringing them down a set of injectors that just need to get to spec would be cheaper.... is this the case?
