W124 300D Diesel Purge
Well, I did my purge last night and I have never seen better results from a purge.
I have had three or four W123 300D's and the diesel purge never made that much of a difference. I've personally driven this car(W124) 27K miles and this is the first purge I've done on her. In my W124, I am smoking much, much less after a cold startup. In fact, it is very minimal and I only saw that because I shined a flash light on the exhaust to see if it was smoking. It was dark outside. I ran two cans through it and much of the time I was at or above 2000 rpm. For about a minute, I was even over 3000rpm. Should I have done this? It seemed to have worked wonders but I was a little nervous while doing it. I just wanted to get it as clean as possible. With the purge, new tensioner shock, and two new engine mounts I can't believe how smooth it runs. Before it would shudder at shut off and start up. It also seems to smoke much less, if any at all, when I romp on it. Before it would smoke quite a bit based on what I saw in the headlights behind me. I couldn't see it from above but my driver side mount was completely collapsed. The passenger side looked fine after I removed it. I've never seen a mount collapsed like this one was. Also, the replacement mounts have what looks like a BB on the bottom mounting surface. Why is that there and what does it do? The mounts I took off didn't have that ball/BB on them. I know that these are supposed to be hydraulic mounts but I still don't get the ball valve looking thing on the mounting surface.
