Vacuum "pressure"

I am in the process of replacing my vacuum pump. I will post pictures later. Caught it before the thing killed the engine. I should have noted that the door locks were not working like they used to (starting about 8 months ago), then lost all vacuum.

But I was thinking about an electric pump. I can get a 12V pump that puts out 20 lbs of vacuum. Is that going to be enough for the power brakes and anything else I need?

Do you mean inches of vacuum? The 123's need between 18-23" of vacuum.

Oppps My bad. Yes inches. So 20" **should** work then.

Yup. You'll have to make a blocking plate. Lots of folks have asked about an electric vac pump so try some searching to find more info.

Also you may have an issue with the volume of vac being pulled. If it can't pull 20" in a large diameter hose you'll have an issue.

I was thinking about taking the roller bearing and attached pin out for the pump would not be active - that would be my "plate".

Here is a Thread from several weeks ago. The subject comes up ounce in a while. A new unit that is made for the job cost as much as a new Vacuum Pump.
Vacuum Pump Thread:
electric vacuum pump?

If you decide to buy a new one you need to take some time and find the thread where the Member Installed a new Vacuum Pump and that ne pump got destroyed quickly. It was due to too much end play in the Timer Bushings.

Do not forget it has to miantain that level of vacuum with some air flow from varius components or leakage.

I forgot to add Electric Vehicle sites (EV) where people convert or make their own EVs have some info on Electric Vacuum Pumps for the Brake Booster.
