Where to get a magnetic drain plug?
I think it was Larry who mentioned something about a magnetic oil pan drain plug. Where can you find one of these. FastLane didn't have one, and I haven't realy looked too carefully anywhere else. Thanks
Alex

I haven't done an exhaustive search, but I've never found a magnetic drain plug for a 123 car. I have them in everything else I own. I'd love to have one too.

OK guys heres what I did last week . drain all the fuilds rearend tranny engine. I have a friend from mid Pa. who sells surplus tools he gave me a bunch of real strong small magnets. Stuck one on the bottom of the rear, one on the bottom of the tranny and one on the drain plug. never knew the oil pan wasn,t steel.
Now heres the deal of today since your the only two who have responded to this thread, if you want a couple of magnets just send me your mailing address and i'll mail them to you (free). Sorry can't extend this offer to anyone else because I just don't have any more. Also don't have any idea if this will do the trick. But it did make me feel better.

I expect this will work quite well. In the oil pan of the overdrive unit it my Vette is a silver dollar or larger size magnet just laying in there. The only reason the drain plug is better is because you wipe it off every time you change oil and can see if something is causing an inordinate amount of slivers.
Thanks, I'll email you. Have a great day, |

you can probably do that but depending on the steel it may not last. I just toke the magnet and put it on the end of the drain plug. hoping that will work. I call yankee ingenuity from a polok.

Guys,
A friend of mine takes apart old speakers and uses the magnets in tranny pans. Many newer cars, like the vette mentioned come with them already. An easy way to keep the crud from floating around. No ideas on the oil drain plug. Chuck |
