1982 300D Euro , ip different , questions

Hi. I just picked up a nice 82 300D Euro with only 102,000 miles. It has US headlights but euro bumpers and the manual windows and sunroof and climate, and cheesy speedo with only mph and the triangle in trunk.

It also has a different IP which i thought was weird. The ip has the splined nuts on the bottom of the lines on the ip. What is different about these euro ips? Any advantage ? Better mpg maybe?

I really like this car and may keep it and sell my 85 300DT US model. I wish it was a stick shift but its an auto. Shifts perfect though. Are there any other differences in powertrain besides no turbo and the ip?

One problem is it was hit in rear. The bumper is smashed in a bit and trunk leak water. other than that, great shape.

Thanks for any pointers about this car.

3.46 rear end ratio is one difference. The ip is known as the "m-pump", though afaik there's nothing particularly special about it.

The high performance folks use the M IP for mods.
If you need to replace the Hand Primer it may have a different sized threads. Something to check out before you oder one on the internet.

The M pump is in the 2nd drawing (this is one for a 300D turbo). Notice it has Crush Washers and O-rings tos seal the Delivery Valve Holders. The IP on my car is the 1st drawing and has only Crushwashers to seal the Delivery Valves.

I have not read of anyone replacing the O-rings on their M pump. But, this could be because there are not many around.

Notice that the Fuel Supply Pump is different and that the Hand Primer is in a different position.

I haven't run into the different thread size of the primer pump, its just a little more difficult to get to as you must remove the fuel lines to get a wrench on it. I've also heard you could send it off to Finland (or someplace) and for a few K get it modified to make your 617/616 go faster The "M" pumps are more of a pain to install delivery valve seals in also.

I've never seen an MBZ MPH-only speedometer. Did you mean to say KPH-only speedometer?
