While replacing the air filter bracket on my 300d, I unbolted the turbo oil supply line and noticed that there isn't a gasket installed between the two surfaces. I thought there was supposed to be a gasket. I ordered one from the local mb dealer but it doesn't fit - it's slightly too large and I think is the turbo's oil return line gasket.

Can someone confirm that the turbo's oil supply line should have a gasket installed? Is this it?

At the above site they only show it as part of a gasket kit.

Is it absolutely too big. If so they may have given you the Gasket that goes on the Drain at the bottom.
If you wanted to you could just buy some gasket material from the Auto Parts store and cut one out your self. Just be very sure to cut the hole in the center for the Oil to go in and to pull of any frayed parts of paper in the central hole.

Is it possible that the gasket just fell of somplace without noticing it?

The Turbo Oil Inlet gasket shows up in the 3rd drawing as #155.
See if the number matches the one you got from the Dealer.
#185 is the Gaket for the Oil Drain.

It's possible that I dropped the gasket. I'll double check that the old gasket isn't lying around somewhere. The link I posted isn't working. It's part number W0133-1643936 on the peachparts fastlane store. Is that the correct gasket?

Thanks for the info. I definitely got the wrong gasket from the dealer. The part number for the gasket I got is A6031870580. That's the #185 part in the diagram you referenced - the oil return line gasket.

That is interesting, because we had to replace the very same gasket on my dad's '82 SD....it has the engine from an '85.....so I ordered an '85 gasket online....and it was way too big! What is the deal, is the wrong part being produced? We ended up having to buy gasket paper at NAPA and very carefully making our own!

I couldn't find any torque specs for these bolts in the service manual. I tightened them down with the wrench until they were tight, but as I didn't know the torque specs I wasn't too aggressive. I checked with a torque wrench and they are on at about 25 newton-meters. Hopefully that's about right.

Air Research/Garrett Turbos used to come from the US and they used to be threaded for US coarse or fine threads. If so the torque would be what the standard torque would be for a bolt that size and grade. If they are US threaded bolts they shold have those (-) marks on the head of the bolt indicating the grade of bolt.
Metric Bolts also have standard torques that you can use.
The general torque specs are on the internet and in many manuals like Haynes manual.
But, I do not think those bolts need any special torque as long as there are no leaks and you do not snap a bolt off.
