more problems to solve

now that the rear end and related parts are in and functioning as one would expect, its time to get to the front part of the car. . . under the hood

during my initial test drive this morning, the engine would basically hold itself at about 2500 rpm max, and at that rpm it was very erratic and surging.

i didn';t have any filters laying around so thats the first step. then i will check and adjust the valves. (this is a unknown vehicle as far as service and stuff is concerned. the po was somewhat of a duhhhhhh.)

i took the air filter off, and it was quite oiley inside, coming from the breather. with all air intake things still off, the breather hose just hanging off the rocker cover, i ran the engine, blow by. not tons but it was certainly there.

i forgot to mention that when its started, and it starts easily, it runs like a three or four cylinder rag. of course when you drive it, the miss is not noticed very much. when you get it warmed up, it still misses pretty bad when it idles, and puffs out of the breather. i have not tried cracking the injector lines yet but thats third on the list of things to do. after that i suppose i should pull the injectors and have them tested. its a long drive to town to do that but, i guess, whatta ya gonna do. oh, i could make the tester from the hydraulic pump, that would be easier than driving to town twice and paying someone besides. can a guy use hydraulic oil to test the injectors instead of diesel fuel ? thats already in the pump.

im really ready to drive this thing, iim getting tired of having it sit onthe garage slab, waiting to be worked on as i have a ton of other things i need to do before winter, and its only how many days till Christmas ? ? ? ? ?

thats my story and im sticking to it. . . . .

thanks for any input or words of wisdom any of you may have
