Gauges and Windows not Working
1981 300TD
Today, the following stopped working: Speedometer, Odometer, Temperature Gauge, Fuel Gauge, Power Windows These electric/electronic/mechanical things still work: Hazard lights, Dash lights, High beam indicator, Headlamps, Horn, Dash lights, Oil pressure gauge I did some searching here, checked all the fuses, and pushed the instrument cluster out to check the connections. I have not yet checked the grounding point near under the car near the bell housing. What else might be the issue?

Replace the fuse and clean both contacts. |

Wow! As my dad used to say, "It's always something simple." and you hit it right on the nose. The fuse didn't look bad at first glance, but was. And I cleaned them all while I was in there.
I would not have guessed that these cars had electronic odometers.

Good job.
90% of the time it's the fuse.......even though it looks fine. Help is what we do here. |

What I have read, the 81TD is the only year and model W123 to have the electric speedometer.
