77 transmission issue

I understand that the trans in this 77 300d is not vacuum related. So I am trying to figure out hos to get rid of the flare.
I am going to adjust the rod tomorrow.

does this trans use the same K1 spring kit as the later models? Or is it completely different?

The trans holds strong after shifting. It also does not shift from 4-3 under accel, and is quickly in 4th gear. Does it have an electrical kick down, or is it all mechanical?

thanks

I've been working through similar issues with my 77 D. Have you changed your fluid and filter? If not start with that. These transmissions have a mechanical modulator which can be adjusted to soften or firm up shifts. Its on the rear end of the transmission and on the passenger side. There is a 17mm cap on it. Which you remove then there is a screw head underneath. Screwing the adjusting screw in(clockwise) will firm up shifts, and adjusting it out(counter clockwise) will soften shifts. You can also adjust the length of the shift linkage that attaches to the throttle linkage. It controls the shift points. Shortening the rod will raise the shift point RPM and lengthening it will lower the shift point.

Thanks,
I have changed the fluid and filter, and did not see much change.
I will try adjusting the lever first. I will shorten the rod so it shifts at a higher speed, correct?
Then when I get that where I want it, I will adjust the modualtor to firm everything up.
Lots of experimenting today...
Thanks
