X3 - I know I have read that elsewhere on this forum, so I would go with that also.

I agree, I actually removed mine because the linkage was messed up and my EGR is defeated. It did not seem to affect anything.

Yes, most our old EGR systems have ceased to function in some manner. I've left the components intact on mine as their presence doesn't seem to affect the performance. Besides, who knows when some additional draconian anti-diesel EPA regulations may appear and demand a functioning EGR.
And, though the extra valve-cover mounted linkage and vacuum plumbing is annoying at valve adjustment time, on my automatic 240D, some of that vacuum setup is needed to control the tranny shifting. Happy Motoring, Mark

Happy Motoring, Mark[/QUOTE] on 220 and 240 automatic cars the transmission needed a vacuum signal to determine throttle position and load. Scrap it on a straight drive car. Robert |

I always thought that flap was to block off the intake at shutdown and (hopefully) preclude a runaway diesel situation, but maybe I was misinformed.

Now if you could get the air-cleaner cover off quickly enough to stuff a rag over the flap.... Happy Motoring, Mark
