My 300TD has been defiled!!! Need help with window replacement

Thanks to the local jackass that decided to redistribute my meager wealth through the broken rear window of my '83 300TD, I now have a window to replace before it starts raining every day for 6 months (I live in western Oregon).

So, anybody replaced this window in an old TD, and if so, got any insights on how to get it back in? I have the window and two of the rubber gaskets it's set in, but cramming it back into the hole it came out of doesn't seem to be working....

Your thumbnail remained a thumbnail when I clicked on it, so I couldn;t really see details very well.
It looks like you mean the non-opening 'vent' pane in the rear door. If so, you'll need to pull the door-panel, then remove the roll-down glass and it's rear rubber-channel and channel-bar to install the new fixed-glass and gasket. There's a philips screw hidden under the rubber window channel at the top end of the channel-bar. Lower part of the channel-bar is bolted inside the upper part of the door. Once the bar is out, the new pane and gasket slides rearward into place and is secured by the channel-bar.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Doesn't your insurance cover vandalism?

In SC, by law auto glass is covered with no deductable, as long as you have comprehensive.

I would check with your insurance company just to make sure.

Thanks Mark- that's exactly what I was expecting to hear, but hoping there was some quickie fix that wasn't obvious to me (there often is; a lot of things aren't obvious to me). I'll give it a whirl- rain isn't due for a few more weeks....

saludos,
randy
