when replacing glow plugs do i need new gl relay also?? 606

for '99 e300 i am replacing the gl's and asking if i will also need to replace the relay? vw mechanic said that they replace them always on vws diesels

I don't see any reason to replace the relay unless it is malfunctioning or you like replacing working parts. But then I'm not that familiar with your model.

Don't see why it's needed. It's easy to get to and you can "McGuiver" it to get it started if it fails.

No need. Replace them always... tut tut... They are dear electronics, abouy 80 pounds here for the relay.
If yours is faulty you might try to file the contacts inside, it will give it a new life for some time.

thanks guys, i have a freind, who works on our cars and he is also very experienced vw mechanic, ands he says they replace them on vw when changing glowplugs

If your relay is working, then I see no reason, however with brand new glow plugs, wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the relay if you don't mind the extra bucks.

That sounds more like a business decision than a sound maintenance strategy. It improves the bottom line and reduces the risk of customer dissatisfaction.

since about 1975 do not cater to the customer(s)...
only the franchise Owner's Bank account.

The Bosch Pre-Glow Relays that Mercedes uses are typically good for Hundreds
of Thousands of Miles.
