Rear Headrests
Hello Everyone.
I own a 1987 Mercedes 300D. The rear headrests are stuck up, the button does not work. I've tried everything and cant get the headrests to lay flat. I cannot find any information relating to the rear headrests, even in my books for the car. I understand the system runs on vacuum. Is anyone experienced, otr have any suggestions. I appreciate any advice. |

The headrests are locked in place when pulled up by hand. The locks are released by the vacuum pump on the engine so the engine must be running to release the headrests. This is explained in the owner's manual. If that does not work, the solenoid that controls the vacuum is under the left side of the rear seat. You can remove the vacuum lines from the solenoid and use a MityVac or similar pump to operate the release. Maybe even mouth suction might be enough. If that does not work, you can access the lock mechanism from inside the trunk and release the locks by hand.
