Sell whole or part out?
 

Well... I hate to have to make this post... :( But what do you all think would get me the most money out of Cacela? :( Should I finish getting her on the road although not in tip top shape... Or part her out...

I need all the money I can get to be able to go overseas on a mission trip... And I've got to get a new computer to be able to even go on the trip... So I'm selling the only thing that I even really have right now... '83 300SD for those that can't look at my sig line ;)

Anyways, it's been a while since I've been too active, so ask me questions to get a better idea if you need to... I know she's not in the greatest of shape... But yeah... I'm really needing at least $2500... Hoping to be able to get a fair bit more...

pictures and a list of known issues will go a long way toward selling... cant even begin to guess on a fair price without those... good luck on the sale and where is your mission trip to?

Price has absolutely NOTHING to do with YOUR need for money and EVERYTHING to do with the condition of the car AND your ability to find a buyer. There are sub $2,500 SDs on craigslist all the time. At $2500, they are re-listed as they have obviously not sold. Cars in really good shape are listed for up to $5,000. I'm not sure what they actually sell for.

What is wrong with yours & where are you located? Does climate and air work? What about windows, roof, radio, rear window rust? Interior good with seats not sagging? How is the paint?

Junkman is correct. You can't sell something based upon how much money you need. You sell something based on what the buyer will pay (what it is worth). Do some research on other like cars and see what they are selling for. This is the only way to get a good idea about what it is worth.

People do this all to often in real estate and cars. Then they wonder why no one is buying their house/car.

Agree with what has been said. thought I would share my selling experience on Craigslist. I sold an '83 300SD in Spring 2008 for $2900. The AC worked. Fairly extensive maintenance history, 2 owner car. I live in a college town so there seems to be an even higher level of love for our beloved diesels. Guy I sold it to had looked at several prior to buying mine. I stood firm on my price based on the fact it was hard enough to get rid of and anything less would not have been worth it to me. Since then I have acquired 2 more and gotten rid of one. The market here does not seem to be as good as it was. I think with the right person, though, good examples are still very desirable. I am always on the lookout for these MB diesels. They are definitely in my blood. I have run across several that needed so much work that I decided to pass. There are quite a few still out there in very good condition. If you are in a position where you are desperate for the money you may have to settle for less. I have been close to parting cars before but have yet to actually do it. If you make a spreadsheet and breakdown some of the more desirable parts that people buy, you may end up with more $ parting but it will take time and more "hassle". My biggest fear on parting a car is selling the wheels and then the rest just sits there!
