Wink New muffler for the 1998 E300D

Just a heads up for E300D (W210) owners that might be in need of a new rear muffler.
I just picked up one from Autopart International down in Bourne, Massachusetts for $265.89. They ordered it in the morning and had it from their Ma. warehouse by 12:00 noon.

......Broke the existing one off bouncing around the northern part of Maine this week so I was relieved at their quick service and it being in stock so close to home.

The quality is excellent! The inlet has changed from the original single pipe to a split (Y) two pipe from the single exhaust. which should be stronger. This should eliminate the problem with the older style single inlet that was prone to fatigue, rust and then breakage from the weight and strain........there is just more meat to it. All hangers are in the right place.
This exhaust muffler still has the traditional two tail pipes

I believe they have some 148 locations.
I will be hanging muffler in the morning!
Cheers

I'm certain that with open pipes, your neighbors are even more relieved than you.....

Good luck

Mine separated at the inlet but an exhaust shop fabricated a new center pipe and welded it to the old muffler which was still in good shape and it has been perfect for almost 2 years now. Just posting this because it is quite common to have that joint where the pipe comes into the muffler break and to know you have an option to replacement of the whole thing is good information to have. They did the whole job in about an hour and as I recall the cost was only about $125 or so for it.

FYI the shop was called Lou's Custom Exhaust and is apparently a regional chain in MA and NH.

Marty,
Had that refab done about 18 months ago with the old muffler inlet. The muffler shop at that time said he had repaired a few of them over the years with the same problem. He actually welded in extra triangular bracing at the inlet to the muffler when he did the repair. I should'nt complain....it bought me an extra 18 months on the old exhaust.

I hung the new muffler this morning without a problem!.......so I can now hit the road on Monday without waking up the dead!

Not Bad, its more of a low drone and not like the loud cackle that you get from an un-mufflered gas engine! But you get carbon all over the place with the muffler sheared off!
