So my 240D took me for a ride yesterday!

Actually quite a long ride! 544.9 miles to be exact!

We left home at 6 am, headed up through Safford, Globe, made a circle through Show Low, Pinetop, over to Eager, down through Alpine, Back through Safford, and home again!

I brought along my Wonderful Wife Cyndi and newly aquired dog Sara, we spent a total of 13.75 hrs . . . we had a great time!

The car was flawless! Even though we asked it to climb at high elevations, it still chugged along, it was not always the fastest vehicle on the road, but it took us where we wanted to with dignity & pride! Up mountians, down by the lakes, and up & down dusty roads . . . averaged a modest 31.96 mpg! I was pleasantly surprised as we were traveling from our home at 4300' elevation down to Safford which is only 2900', then up to Show Low at 6300' Pinetop 7000' Alpine about 10,000' we had some sections that we needed 2 gear going up as the corners were quite sharp, and the hill was steep, for about 100 miles the speed limit was 25mph! I was usually going 35-45 in 3rd gear, so I figurd my mpg would suffer, especially since I was up so high! Excellent car!

Oh yeah here are some pics!
Heading up out of the Salt River Valley:

Doggy Break about 15 mi before Show Low:

East of Pinetop, on the Apache Reservation:

Another Doggy Break location:

South of Alpine in my fine automobile:

Sara was aprehensive of some of the corners . . .

Not what most people think of AZ:

Another Doggy Break . . . but we had fun too, nice to stretch our legs and breathe the cool mountain air!

Looking back . . . it was a great trip!

Amazing pictures - I've never been to AZ, and always 'think' it's flat land...beautiful country!

These cars are great...and yes they cruise with a certain 'class' that is just amazing!!

Thanks for sharing this --

The 240D's are great cars for just this, I did the same thing but from California to Parker, AZ and it was a blast it ran like a top and gave me great mpg, boy I sure do miss my 240D.

Those are great pictures and beautiful car! That's Arizona? I've only been to Phoenix/Mesa and just see the usual flat, sandy place. I want to go there! lol Glad you had a great trip!

Great pics ... it looks like the part of Michigan I used to go to every year, kind of. Looks like it was a nice trip. Cute dog too ... is she a Wheaton Terrier?

Beautiful scenery and car

What a spectacular ride. Same color as my 81. I look forward to taking it on a long 240 cruise.

We are not really sure what she is, as we got her from a shelter 6 weeks ago today . . . our vet said she is about 1.5 years old, we believe she has a bunch of schnauzer and some kind of terrier, she has ears that remind me of a Scotty, but wrong color, probably not Wheaton though, as her hair was about 4" long and wiry when we got her, we buzzed her, and she had a soft undercoat, but it is getting long again, almost an inch now, and getting course again!

She came to us very shy, nervious and scared, obviously abused, the following day after we brought her home I had gotten dressed while she was out of the room, as I walked down the hall from our bedroom from getting dressed for Church in a suit & tie, she came running to see me, and as soon as she saw me she just froze, and cowered down, then slinked away! My wife & I finely were able to convince her that I was the same guy! Then she was Ok, but when we got home from church, she freaked out again, but as soon as I started to talk to her she settled down, she also was missing an eye, and had a broken in two places tail, she loves us, as she is spoiled rotten . . .just like a princess should be! (Sara means Princess!)

She has come along way . . .she is a very smart dog, and catches on quick!

Here are some more doggie pics from yesterday:

Whatever she is, she's adorable! Wonderful that she found a loving home ... I can't imagine how anyone could mistreat an animal like that. She's a lucky dog now, though, riding around in style in a Benz!

Damm Shawn. Those are some great pic's. You beat me to it dude! I had wanted to do pretty much the same thing with my 81 240D (same color and everything) as you did with this trip. But mine is no more.
