Rain Drops Keep Falling! '82 300SD

I did a search and seems like these cars have allot of leaks during the rain. Instead of reading 315 Thread I decided to take a chance and post a new thread for those online now. Thanks for any help.

Well this leak is small but annoying. When I sit in the drivers seat and look at the straight-pillar; (Left) that is between the fwd. end of drivers door and the windshield the leak is coming out at the bottom of the trim cover piece. This trim piece is about 3 inches wide. This pillar goes from the dash to the roof just before the drivers door.

Then it leaks onto the far left AC outlet outlet rectectangular cover where the fins are to shut off the air.

What could it be?

Steve

Your first one could be a bad door seal or a corroded/clogged sunroof drain. Check the rubber around the door for any cracks or sagging, etc. For the sunroof, take a piece of weed trimmer string, open up your sunroof, and start sticking it in the front driver-side drain (should be able to see it). Normally it should drain to all four wheelwells, but I do know they have a tendency to corrode and leak before it gets there.

Thanks TBO,

So there is a tube in there that is steel that corrodes? Thanks for letting me know.

I'll check sunroof drain in that corner also.

I was wondering if I should take off the trim piece on the inside to see if that might help. I really hate messing with trim if I can get away with it.

My memory of this is very foggy as it was many years back on one of the SDs I owned but the leak was exactly as you described. Was not the sunroof, but a piece of trim on the outside was leaking through a screw hole. Sorry can't remember what piece of trim it was. And for the life of me I can't remember the windshield/door/roof in enough detail if you post some pictures of those areas I'm sure it will jog my memory :-)

VWkess,

I looked for a piece of trim on the outside above my leak on the Outide and I think I "do see" a 3/4 wide piece of trim (car color not chrome) that could be my problem and it has a very tiny gap in it just above the leak. I'll put a bead of RTV over it and check the other suggestions the others made. Lots of trim on these cars that you normally don't notice. I did not find a screw but your screw may have been added to hold the trim on. Thanks for jobbing your memory.

Yeah we have rain up he Ying Yang. We have gotten allot of the Atlanta weather, but no flooding here. I feel sorry for them.

Thanks for the help.

It was a car color trim piece. The screw was not visible from the top/outside.... I just can't quite remember the details. I do know that I removed the whole trim piece to fix it but I can't remember how the screws were hidden

You have to hold up the rubber strip to see the three (?) screws that hold the trim piece down. It almost takes 3 hands the first time to take off that outside trim.
