Transmission Fluid Dipstick Level is for Hot Fluid
Noticed a few post lately about Transmission Fluid level and dipstick readings.
Those reading on the transmission dipstick are for fluid at operating temperatures (175 Deg F or 80 deg C). At room temperatures the fluid will be below the low mark. I've got a 92 300D and the owners manual states that the max fluid level will be .5 inches (12 mm) below the min mark on the dipstick. (P 77 Mercedes Owners manual) Just trying to help. Bobo

And to expand, just getting the engine up to op-temp is NOT sufficient for checking the trans fluid. The car must be run, preferrably at highway speeds, to get the transmission up to op-temp to check it accurately. If not, the dipstick will show less fluid than what is really there.
