Shore hardness, huh? Who knew? Interesting. I wonder if that is why when I replaced the mount on my '83 240D the one was completely obliterated and the other one (while old and ready to be replaced) was still entact and functioning.
I wonder if this applies to my model as well? I also wonder if this is why we see complaints of mounts failing very early - some manufacturers selling the same component for left and right, when in fact they should be different. Do your model have the anti-vibration T mount, located on the bottom of the engine behind the oil pan. I also changed that mount on mine because it was deteriorated due to an oil leak. (Or maybe it was just really old like everything else on the car). |

I've never poked around inside a 123 or 116, but the question we'd need to answer is whether something about the left side of the 126 protects the mount from heat or fluids that doesn't in either of the other chassis. Or maybe the shield just doesn't fit in the 126 engine bay for some reason so they decided to skip it, and this line of investigation won't give us any useful information at all :D |

Pricy little buggers aren`t they?
I have my shields, but haven`t put them on. Iam usually checking the engine bay before I start the car ea time, so do a visual for leaks, check oil, brake fluid, coolant etc........... so catch anything as it happens. not too worried if they are on or not. I also wasn`t aware of left and right side engine mounts. maybe because of the engine torque pulling on one side and pushing down some on the other depends on R & L. Charlie |

Maybe since the FSM was written mercedes changed their mind and decided it was needed on both sides... |

You contradict yourself in your 2 posts. First you say the shield plate "is needed on ONLY the right side in the 126." and then in your last post you say "that a right side heat shield isn't required for the 126.120 chassis.". I have a 126 and I have no shield on the RIGHT SIDE(Passenger Side). The left side or drivers side closer to the IP has a shield plate. So the Right side(Passenger) does not need the shield and the left side(Drivers) does need the shield. I just wanted to clear this up because, when I read your first post, I thought I was in trouble since I only had one shield on the left side. -pete |
