I will record the nailing sound of my 1992 300SD with an auto stenoscope when I get someone to help me keep the revs at 10k. I've noticed this distinct nailing sound during winter.

I think from reading about this I understand what the sounds is. Add me on youtube "russianwol". Might take couple weeks to make the video.

reviving an old thread here, but was this noise ever solved or were videos ever made? were valve lifters considered? I think some part inside them has always been plastic, even back in the days when they were built like cost was no object.
