Another Engine Swap Question

I have the ability to buy a BEAUTIFUL S600 with a "knocking" V12.
Anybody every heard of pulling a V12 and putting in a 603, 6 cylinder turbo diesel?
I have a couple spare motors laying around.
What problems would I potentially run into?

In California you might run into emissions/inspection trouble.

If you have the diesel donor car, could be a fun project.

I have the donor car and can pickup this immaculate S600 for $2,000. I have heard of guys putting diesels in all kinds of gassers (Dakota, Scout, etc), but I'm not sure how they get by the CA emissions. This vehicle is at a junkyard with no plates or title. I'm not sure what I would have to do about that.
You can make a motor fit into just about anything with a little fabrication but I am worried about the electronics and transmission.
I'm hoping someone will chime in that has either done it or knows that it is not worth doing.

The V12 is a pretty durable engine....I'd research it's issue before dumping it. But I'd buy the car either way. A 603 or 606 would fit in that car.

Electronics will be a very minor issue with a 603 and it's transmission. The only electronic thing is the idle control and that doesn't stop it from running.

Main issue is fabrication, and how much of it.

I'm going to research more into why it is in the junkyard. I was there getting some other parts and saw it sitting looking brand new. The guy said someone has already taken the seat track/motors. Then he offered to sell me the built in Navigation system. I asked if it worked and he started the car up to show that it powered up. He said, "Do you hear that tap?". That's why it's here. It even has brand new tires on it.
I can deal with the fabrication. I just need to look into the DMV issue. I don't know that I can afford to run a V12. But an S600 with a Biodiesel tag under the V12 label..... oh, baby!!!!!
