Transmission problem ? (quick question)

Hello,

Recently some stupid mechanic had damaged our 5 speed automatic gearbox, this gear box had originally come with our car and has original wiring for the kick down switch, which lead us to buy a 4 speed manual gearbox due to availability, when driving on a strait road and after you reach a curtain speed and hold the accelerator there to keep a constant speed the car would keep jerking and this had damaged two of our UV joint's, specially at first gear and if you don't shift up but not on the 4th gear. You would have to accelerate quite a bit to get up to speed considering all the jerking wont break your neck the injectors are fine and the engine runs smooth could someone please tell my father what is wrong I told him its the gear box and he wont believe me is this wrong?

Thanks Jeremy Brett

I don't know if I can help, but knowing the model car and engine will give a little more information to those who can.

Hi
Not enough information provided here to tell much

You don't tell us which model 123 we are discussing.

In general, jerking at a certain speed is more likely an engine (perhaps fuel) problem - as opposed to a transmision/drive line problem.

Were it me, I would start by changing out the fuel filters and checking for contaminated fuel in the tank.

Good Luck
Joseph

Could be as simple as inadaquate fluid level in the transmission. Read how to check the level properly. Do not just top up on a cold transmission. Sorry this applies to an automatic and I see you have converted to a standard.

I do not think a standard transmission can do this. Or am not sure how it would.
