W123 300TD FTW. Kids LOVE the jumper seat. They fight over it.

Everyone needs an extra car or 2. Buy whatever baby hauler you want and keep the MBZ. You'll be glad you did....besides, it doesn't eat much especially if not driven daily and you can't sell it for much. Another advantage is that they're slow and safe. My 8 yr old son will get the SD as his 1st car. By the time he's 16, he'll know how to take care of it.

Thanks for all recommendations guys. I didnt know a MB wagon would be large enough but Ive never seen the inside. I guess my thoughts are the wifes car needs to be reliable, non veg oil, non 288k mile vehicle.
Didnt think anything this side of Exped would be big enough for her to easily cart all 3 around in backseat (didnt think you were allowed to put the 5yr old in front seat). The exped is huge and cheap and we've owned an Escape now since 05 and its been the most reliable vehicle Ive ever owned. Never thought I would say that about a Ford as Im a German car nut thru and thru. That MB R class is sweet but its a 4 seater right? Plus, I'd really hate to discover a 3day old half empty bottle of milk poured out into back seat during late summer if I had paid the $ for a premium SUV. Those Expeds have lost their value like a rock in water, Im sure by early 2010 you will be seeing 07's with <50k miles well equipped for under $20. In 07 they switched to 4 wheel ind. suspension and if you opt for the Bauer or King Ranch the interior is really nice and you can still buy most parts at Autozone. But it gets 12 mpg and being in an urban environment it will be a chore to navigate that rig. For my car, I can look at older vehicles that require some level of mechanical skill to operate (like an SDL or older wagon, or late 90s burban). But for her it needs to be brain dead reliable. The 08 Sequoias are perfect but still pretty pricey. Before 08 it was not as well put together. The 08 pathfinder is another nice 1 but also expensive. I'll keep looking and let you know what I come up with. Its gonna kill me to go from 100 mpg to 12 mpg for sure if I cant stay in something veg oil related! Oh yeah, junkman Im on the same page as you with the 3rd car idea, and I always carry triple A Plus. In my case the 3rd car is a pretty much track only corrado though which wont help but it will get me to work when my daily is down for inevitable repairs. I was already offer $4500 for the 87 300D veg machine but I passed on it as Im waiting till the last second. Im saving $2k a year to operate that car so I cant see letting it go before I absolutely must. Hell maybe I will keep it and somehow rig in 3 car seats in the back and just deal with it. And get the wife her new gas guzzler...

" In my case the 3rd car is a pretty much track only corrado"
That would qualify as a justified 4th vehicle. |

If you can find one, a 1987 300TD wagon with the 3rd row seat could be a good option. You can keep your grease kit and the good fuel economy.
Ours doesnt have the 3rd row seat, but be have hit 30 mpg on trips a couple times.

6 yrs old is the min for the jumper seat in the back of the wagon. Enough room? In a wagon? Please. I have hauled over a dozen 2x4x8, some 30 bag of pinebark(and 6 bails of hay on the roof). All without a window or hatch open. It is the original work horse diaper wagon. Originator of the sto n go seating. I could go on and on.

THAT was going to be my suggestion. We just purchased a beauty with on 75K on it, but took prolly two months to locate the "one". After driving these things, I'm going to be hard pressed to NOT have at least one MB in my stable at all times!

My wife will borrow my car when she wants to go somewhere with a friend and her 2 kids. It's better than driving 2 cars. Of course I have to use her HCH II on those days. She has commented more than once about how well it drives for a 23 year old car. I think a small part of her misses it.

OK, not a real hip or popular opinion, but there is a reason why the minivan has blown up across this world of ours. If you are hauling young kids and doing all the family stuff, a minivan just can't be beat for ease of everything.
Yes, it IS a minivan, but they make life so much easier for mom. And if life is easier for mom........

The same can be said for the SUV, which is just a tall station-wagon.
