Bullet Proofing a w123?

I was browsing around youtube and I came upon this really cool video of the design and creation of the e-guard car http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgB9ZyMufes

I was toying around with the idea of bullet proofing and the steps behind it. So what would one need to do to bullet proof a w123?

Our cars are already pretty cool, but a bullet proof 300D would be the ultimate in awesome.

My guess would be adding about a thousand pounds of pointless/dead weight as a bragging right. An auto 240D might smoke you in a drag

just shoehorn in bulletproof glass. Im sure if anyone was going to open up fire on you theyd shoot the windows not through the doors. Plus the doors will slow the bullet so it probably wont be like taking a direct hit

After building custom doors to accomodate the glass,I imagine you could add kevlar fabric in side the doors and other places. Of course as noted already it would be a fortune to do and to what end?

My .270 Winchester will punch a hole through 1/2" steel and keep on going! That is with regular hunting 130 gr soft tips!

Don't think that thin skin of steel is gonna do anything but maybe expand the bullet a tad so it will make a bigger hole in you!

If your worried . . . get out of Dodge, or get your gun . . . you do have a gun?

Why not? I thought it would be something interesting to think and talk about.

how many burglers use hunting rifles?
a .270 has a LOT of power and speed at the end of the barrel.
I don't see it doing any damage after hitting 1/2" steel though... I doubt a .270 can penetrate 1/4" steel. I would have 2 see it 2 believe it...

Speaking of Kevlar:
It was about 15 years ago. But, a local Surplus store was selling multi-layered Kevlar sort of Curtains that hang inside of the Older M113 type Armored Personnel Carriers.

Part of the Issue can be solved cheaply by filling the un-occupied spaces with Sand Bags.

No matter how well you Car is bullet proofed it can still be stopped and doused with Gasoline and set on Fire. Not, to mention some sort of explosives under the Car.

Probably easier just to bullet proof yourself.

Also some diplomat in the Middle East was killed in an ambush when a bullet passed through the gap in his bullet proofed Car.

Even a Tank need other support like the Infantry to protect it.

Come on over . . . 130 gr bullet going about 3200 fps WILL go through 1/2" steel, and keeps on going! I would not want to be behind it, or holding a camera close by, my friend last night at church said that at 20 yards he was shooting the same steel chickens with his 45 auto, and a fragment came back and got him in the leg (His 45 make a BIG dent in the steel, but not quite all the way through!

My .357 mag will go through 1/4" steel . . .

Most burglurs don't shoot into cars either . . .
